The following information pertains to an evidence-based OT project on mentoring in 2015:
Purpose of the project:
To determine the application of current evidence on mentoring and job satisfaction for OTs working at a home health agency through introductory mentoring relationships
Description of project:
Upon site permission and IRB approval, the evidence-based practitioner recruited ten home health OTs who had an interest in mentoring and willingness to devote one hour per week for six weeks, outside of normal work responsibilities, to project activities. Perception-based, online surveys were coordinated during weeks one and six. The evidence-based practitioner sent weekly emails with suggested topics and mentoring activities to participants at the beginning of weeks two, three, four, and five.
Week 1: Participants completed OT Skills Checklist and selected a partner for mentoring. Participants completed a confidential, online Initial Questionnaire. Week 2: Participants outlined goals for the mentoring relationship, using the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Mentoring Form. Week 3: Client-centered Care - Participants were invited to discuss challenges and successes in practice and to share assessment strategies. Week 4: Professional Development - Participants were invited to discuss how they stay connected to their profession. Week 5: Work-Life Balance - Participants were invited to exchange examples of how they manage stress and time to facilitate their performance in different aspects of life. Week 6: Participants completed a confidential, online Follow-Up Questionnaire. |
